message to my sisters
you hold me to a higher standard than our parents
acting like I’m meaner
when I took the abuse for you,
held onto secrets that would’ve destroyed your childhood,
stood alone against my abuser,
when I would’ve stood by yours.
of course I left you.
you never appreciated my sacrifice
to the peace you received during our childhood
while I lay awake every night with a knife under my pillow.
we are not the same.
